  • After being annoyed by Ackley's "phoniness", Holden decides he is going to eave for New York that night instead of waiting until Wednesday. After passing a few days there in secret, he will wait until his parents have digested the news of his expulsion before he returns to their apartment. He packs his bags, dons his hunting hat, and begins to cry. As he leaves, he shouts to the whole dorm.
  • Sleep tight, ya morons!
  • Welcome to Penn Station!
  • Holden walks to the train station to buy a ticket to New York
  • Once on the train, Holden runs into the mother of one of his classmates, Ernest Morrow. Even though Holden does not like him, he tells Ernest's mother what a great kid she has.

  • I'm so glad to know that.
