Born in 1491, St. Ignatius grew up in the Basque region of Spain. He was very noble and popular young man, especially with the ladies. He was not what he was to be in the future, a saint.
When Ignatius was young his family had connections with the treasurer of the kingdom of Castile, so at sixteen he left to help page. During this time, he became more risky by dueling, gambling, and wooing the ladies.
At the age of twenty six, Ignatius earned a position as a soldier for a northern area called Pamplona.
