  • Rick Kittles was born in 1976 in Sylvania, GA, in an area his family had inhabited for several generations but he grew up in Central Islip, NY. He always was curious about human origins and differences.
  • What are our origins ?

  • Kittles received a bachelor of science degree in biology from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1989 and a doctorate in biological sciences from George Washington University in1998. From there he went to Howard University and in there, helped create the National Human Genome Center.

  • Kittles became one of the youngest scientific researchers in the country in the early 2000s at Ohio State University. When he was hired by them in 2004, the Columbus Dispatch reported that would bring to the university more than a million dollars.

  • Now called Dr. Kittles, he served as Associate Director for Cancer Disparities at the University of Arizona Cancer Center. He supervised the Community Cancer Committee in which he facilitates the coordination and establishment of extensive networks of community alliance that engage in public health outreach and prevention endeavors.
  • It is the world's largest tracing maternal and paternal lineages of African descent having helped more than 150,000 people people re-connect with the roots of their family tree, he still works there to this day.

  • In 2003, Dr. Rick Kittles and Gina Paige founded African Ancestry.

  • Kittles was featured in the BBC Two films, Motherland: A Genectic Journey and Motherland which was released in 2003 and 2004. on October 7th,2007 he was featured on the American TV news magazine. In Feb, 2008 he appeared in part 4 of African American Lives 2.
