Good morning class, today we will be starting our chapter on the Draft. First off the Draft came to be in 1945 during the first World War. At the time the United States military was lacking volunteers causing the government to create the Selective Service Act, obliging men to register for the Draft.
Do women have to register for the draft too?
Sort of, just recently a bill has been passed that now requires women to register for the Draft, but there are certain requirements to be eligible for registering that are different from the men.But before when the Draft was first established, women could only join the military as clerks and nurses. We will soon be making history!
Is World War I the only war we have had to use the Selective Service Act?
The act was used only three more times after the first World War. The next being the second World War, the third was the Cold War and the last time being the Vietnam War. Hopefully there will not be another situation where the act will be needed again.
So that you guys can understand both point of views of the people who do not think the draft is fair and the people who do think it is fair we will be going on a field trip,
