An unknown narrator explains to everyone how he is not insane. He talks about his senses being extra ordinary.
The narrator tells us how there is this old man that he finds very lovely but he has a problem. The old man's eye is evil and the narrator believes the eye is haunting him. He believes the eye is always out to get him.
For seven nights, the narrator would go into the old man's bed room and watch him sleep. He would do it very quietly everyday. He didn't want to kill the old man just his eye.
On the eighth night the man woke up because he heard a noise. When he saw the old man he screamed so loud the narrator had to kill him so that he would be quiet.
The narrator put the body under a floor board because he didn't want anyone to find out. The narrator acted like nothing happened but after a moment he heard the doorbell ring. He went to open the door and the cops were there.
The cops asked the narrator what the problem was because someone called due to a noise complaint. The narrator told them he screamed while he was sleeping. The cops were convinced and the narrator let them in. After a while the narrator thought he heard the old man's heart beating so he confessed to the cops.
