  • Positive Affects
  • What were the positive outcomes of this policy?
  • CNN-News Reporting Live From China
  • It's been over 3 decades since China's one-child policy began. China's one-child policy was established in 1979 and has made a lot of ethical problems for women living in China. This restricts families from having more than one child. They began this policy because to prevent the rapid population growth in China.
  • Negative Affects
  • CNN-News Reporting Live From China
  • If a woman would have wanted to keep the child, they were given huge fines, abortions and forcefully sterilizing the woman so she is unable to give birth. Throughout the years' women's fertility rate also started to decline to 1.6 child per woman.
  • Why did it change?
  • CNN-News Reporting Live From China
  • Around 400 million births were prevented. Without the policy, this number will continue to add up and this can aggravate the problem of overpopulation. Children had a better life because parents just had to focus on upbringing one child and you could easily get jobs in that period of time.
  • The End!
  • CNN-News Reporting Live From China
  • Woman are forced to abort babies even if they are 7 months pregnant. Women suffer not only physically but also psychologically and emotionally. Being the only child can also add a lot of burden in the future because they need to support themselves including their entire family.
  • What were the negative outcomes of this policy?
  • There was also a huge amount of gender imbalance and there was 30,000 more male than females as boys are preferred over girls so it made it harder to find a suitable wife in the future.
  • They decided to end the one child policy because it had already caused such a major effect on China and also so they could increase the amount of young people in China because of its aging population. We are expected to see 400 million people over the age of 60 by 2030's.
  • Why are they changing the policy?
  •  China has one of the oldest population in the world.
