As Macbeth and Banquo were returning from the battle against the Norwegians,they find the 3 witches which tell their future, the witches mentioned that Macbeth will become the Thane (lord) of Cawdor and 'king hereafter'. The witches also tell Banquo that he himself wouldn't be King but his children would
Is that a dagger I see before me?
As soon as Macbeth and Banquo reach to Duncan, he immediately promotes Macbeth as Than of Cawdor since the previous one was a fraud and was helping the Norwegians with the battle. Since it was a joyful moment, king Duncan decided to stay at Macbeth's castle for the night
No man born of woman can harm you
Macbeth soon writes a letter informing his wife, Lady Macbeth that the King will be staying over, and that the one of the witch's prophecy was that he becomes king, which gives both of them the idea to kill Duncan and claim the throne
After Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to kill the King, Macbeth starts to hallucinate, imagining a dagger in front of him. After doing the deed Macbeth blames the murder on 2 guards.
Since Macbeth was acting weird, Banquo and his son Fleance suspect Macbeth for the murder of Duncan. So Macbeth hires 2 killers to go and kill Banquo and Fleance, they manage to kill Banquo but young Fleance manages to escape. Later Macbeth returns to the witches and they tell him that 'no man born of woman can harm you (macbeth).
The witches do warn Macbeth of Macduff, so Maceth sends people to kill Macduffs family. After Macduff heard about the murder of his family, he builds an army with Duncans son, Malcolm. As they arrive to the castle with the army, Macbeth clearly says that no one can kill him, when Macduff says 'I was ripped untimely out of my mothers' womb'. And chops his head off.
