  • They became accountants, clerks, mangers, and sales people.Growing population cause the need for more teachers,engineers,lawyers, and doctors. Few professions accepted women as members. Businesses hired women as salesclerks,secretaries,and typists.

  • People that live in the cities live in terrible poverty. The growing population kept wages low. Workers lived in cramped conditions.(tenements,run-down apartments)

  • How did the settlement house help? What was the views of Social Gospel?
  • Settlement was a place where volunteers provided a variety of services to people in need. They taught immigrants many skills. Offered English classes and job training courses. Along with activitives and clubs. Many workers believed in Social Gospel.
