Storyboard Text

  • This is ridiculous! So many people are being killed by this plague!
  • And now one of our best friends! We need to avenge him by killing death!
  • You men need to respect your elders. I have accepted death, and you should too. If you want to find death so badly, look under that tree.
  • Tell us where to find death! You are his spy!
  • I'm taking all this money for myself.
  • Wow, this is so much money! What ever will we do with it?
  • I say we split it equally between the three of us.
  • Once there were three rioters sitting in a tavern having a drink. They rushed outside when they heard the sound of a handbell ringing, meaning a coffin was soon to be put in the ground. The rioters were very angry, as the person in the coffin was a friend of theirs. They decided that they were going to search for and kill death, who took their friend and many others away, because of the Black Death.
  • What do you say we pretend to have a wrestling match and stab him in the back with a dagger?
  • That sounds good to me, more money for us!
  • On their journey to find death, the rioters came across a poor old man. They asked the man all sorts of questions, but mostly they wanted to know where they could find death. The old man was surprisingly calm in contrast to the rioters, and he is filled with the wisdom of old age. He tells the rioters that they can find death in a grove under a tree, so that is where they go.
  • Hmm... How can I get all the gold for myself? Maybe poison the others with rat poison? That should work!
  • Hello, I need rat poison to kill some rats in my house.
  • Here, this is the strongest stuff I've got!
  • When the three rioters arrive at the tree, they are surprised to find a pile of gold coins worth a large sum of money, when they were expecting to find death. They decide that they will split it equally between the three of them. They draw straws to see who will run into town and get bread and wine so they can celebrate, and the youngest rioter goes into town and leaves the other two rioters alone with their new treasure.
  • While the youngest rioter is out getting bread and wine, the other two discuss an alternative to splitting the money three ways; to kill the youngest by stabbing him in the back with a dagger during a wrestling match, and splitting the money between the two of them instead.
  • Meanwhile, the youngest rioter is out getting bread and wine and comes up with his own plan. He will kill the other two men by poisoning their wine, so he can take all the gold for himself. He goes to an apothecary to buy a box of rat poison, gets three large bottles, puts rat poison in two of them, and fills them with wine.
  • When the young man returns to the grove, he gets stabbed in the back with a dagger, as the other men had planned. Then the remaining rioters drink the wine to celebrate, get poisoned, and die as well. In the end, everyone died so none of them got any of the treasure. The moral of the story is that the desire for money is the root of all evil.
