  • This is Senator Lisa Murkowski, the Republican of Alaska. She is the Chairwoman of the energy and natural resource committee. She believes that Climate Change is real but she also play's the other side saying that boosting oil and gas interests in her home state and challenging the EPA’s authority to curb emissions.
  • It doesn’t make sense to argue about how much global warming is caused by man – whether it’s 5% or 50%
  • Climate Change is causing ecosystems to change and even disappear completely. There are approximately 100 000 000 different species on Earth. The extinction rate is just 0.01% per year. This means that we are losing 10 000 species a year.

  • Long before human beings arrived, fossil records show that populations of animals evolved, thrived, declined, and became extinct. However, the rate of extinctions in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries drastically increased to an estimated 100 to 1,000 times the normal expected rate of extinction.
  • The Government of Canada passed the Species At Risk law in 2002, its first endangered species law. The Species at Risk Pathways to Recovery Conference was held in 2004. The conference, held in Victoria in March 2004 was attended by over 1000 scientists, managers, educators, policy makers and legislators from government, First Nations, industry, academia, and non-government organizations. This conference covered a diverse range of topics including species and habitat ecology, climate change, recovery and etc.
