  • DEMOCRACY
  • We must create a new constitution in order to finally fix problems and to officially declare the our withdrawal from the Soviet Union!
  • YOU'RE FIRED!
  • YOU'RE HIRED!
  • After the revolution, Yeltsin proceeded with his plans to create a democracy and although the soviet structure had dissolved, the same problems existed.
  • I HAVE DECIDED TO NO LONGER HOLD THE POSITION OF PRESIDENCY, I HEREBY STEP DOWN
  • In turn, the Constitution of 1993 was ratified, thereby creating the branches of government; the executive, judicial, the upper and lower legislative (the Federal Council and the Duma).
  • How can we make it so that we can legally stay in office as long as possible, Medvedev?
  • Oh Putin, I have an idea...
  • During his presidency, Yeltsin's behavior turned erratic due to his frequent illness and alcoholism; he constantly hired and fired prime minister.
  • Okay, it's your turn this time!
  • Yeltsin resigned in December of 1999 and his prime minister, Vladimir Putin, took his place.
  • Vladimir Putin then ran for and became president of Russia until 2008, when Dmitry Medvedev was elected as president. Medvedev amended the constitution, creating a six year term instead of a four year for presidents.
  • Currently, since the Russian constitution allows an indefinite amount of terms someone can run (as long as they are not consecutive), Medvedev and Putin have created a system allowing one to be elected as president and the other their PM, creating a cycle of the two as presidents.
