  • "Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore— Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore Of ‘Never—nevermore’.”
  • "“Wretch,” I cried, “thy God hath lent thee—by these angels he hath sent thee Respite—respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore"
  • " “Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!—prophet still, if bird or devil!"
  • He suggest that the previous owner was a negative person that used the word nevermore frequently and the raven became accustom to saying this.
  • "Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore."

  • He thinks God had sent this as a sign that he should let go of all the sadness dealing with Lenore.
  • "Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore.” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

  • He suspects that the devil has something to do with this talking bird.
  • "And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be lifted—nevermore!"

  • He ask if he will ever be able to stop grieving over his lost lenore and the raven says no.
  • He ask if he will ever see his lover Lenore and the raven says "nevermore" which means no. So is very heartbroken and sad now.
  • He ask if he will rise to heaven and the raven say no.
