A man could work twelve or fourteen hours a day and still not earn enough to support his family.So everyone had to help out , Even kids who were 8 to 10 years old.
Working children were common everywhere.Kids usually worked in factories,warehouses,laundries, and stores.
Youngsters under fourteen were supposed to be in school, but law was not strictly enforced.
