  • Natural Selection
  • Today I am going to talk to you about natural selection using the example of grasshoppers.
  • The first step is overproduction. Grasshoppers can lay 100-120 eggs. Some of the eggs will survive and develop into adult spiders. Some will not.
  • The second step is inherited variation. Every individual has its own combination of traits. Each grasshopper is similar but not identical to its parents.
  • The third step is to struggle to survive. Some grasshoppers may be caught by predators, such as a spiders or birds. Other grasshoppers may starve or get a disease. Only some of the grasshoppers will survive to adulthood.
  • The last step is successful reproduction. The grasshoppers that are best adapted to their environment are likely to have many offspring that survive.
  • Natural Selection
  • Natural selection is very important. Those were all of the steps to natural selection.
