  • Hitler tries to seize power in Munich
  • Hitler goes to jail

  • In 1923 the Wiemar Republic was in crisis and about to collapse, therefore Hitler and the Nazi party that was stronger than ever decided to try and take power by seizing Munich. Sadly their plan failed as the police knew of the attack, 16 Nazi storm troopers were killed and Hitler was sent to jail two days later.
  • The democracy plan
  • In 1923 Hitler was sentenced to nine months in the Landsberg Prison. Many people believe he learnt to be a leader during this time as he had valuable lessons. Firstly he learnt that the only way for him to achieve power was to stand in elections then once in power, destroy the system within. He also learnt that the support of the arm and the business community was key to achieve his goals.

  • When serving his jail sentence, Adolf Hitler began to write Mein Kampf, which translates into "My Struggle" in the German language. The book initially begins with Hitler's background, in which he describes his childhood, early aspirations, and the conflict he felt when he was expected to follow his father's footsteps. Also included in the book are his views on once current topics and his hate against Jews.
  • First anti-Jew action
  • After his time in jail Hitler realized the only way to gain power was to play by the democratic rules and get elected. To do this he reformed the Nazi party and began public speaking to gain votes from all sorts of people. He also started the the Hitler youth, this was an organisation where boys age 15-18 were modeled into ideal German boys.
  • In 1929 the American stock exchange collapsed causing an economic depression. This seriously affected Germany as they had borrowed large amounts of money due to the Treaty of Versailles. However America now demanded their money back and Germany were thrown into a depression.
  • In 1930 Hitler commits his first anti-Jew action when he smashes the windows of Jewish workers. His hatred against the Jews started in his early childhood when he couldn't get into art college and thought rich Jewish men were the reason for Germany's downfall.
