“Perseus” is about this boy named Perseus and his mom Danae who lived in a kingdom with her father, King Acrisius. King Acrisius heard that his daughter’s son would kill him, so he locked Perseus and Danae in a chest and pushed them into the ocean. A fisherman named Dictys found the chest, reeled it in, opened it, and found Danae and Perseus.
•The king of this kingdom, named Polydectes, found out about Danae and her son and wanted to marry Danae. Perseus tried to protect his mother because he didn’t like the king, and finally the king got mad at Perseus and wanted to get rid of him. He sent him on a journey to kill the gorgon Medusa. Three of the gods, Hermes, Athena, and Hades, thought that Perseus was brave so they decided to help him. Hermes gave him his winged shoes, Athena gave him her bright shield, and Hades gave him a helmet of invisibility. he found these on the way to medusa
Nobody knew where Medusa was except for three sisters who shared one eye and one tooth to eat. The sisters were in a fight about who needed the eye, and they dropped it. Perseus found it and said he would give it back if they told him where Medusa was. He threatened to throw the eye, so they finally told him where she was. He heard them whisper about Medusa’s ability to turn people into stone if they looked at her snake hair. He also heard them talk about her weakness, which was she can’t turn you to stone through reflections.
He found Medusa’s lair and used Athena’s shield to see her reflection. He cut off Medusa’s head while she was sleeping and put it into the big bag. As he was flying away, the blood dripped onto the sand and became huge serpents. One of the huge serpents attacked a kingdom, and a fortune teller told the king that he could only save his kingdom if he sacrificed his daughter. Her name was Andromeda. They hung her from chains on a cliff, and the serpent went after her. Perseus heard her screaming, so he flew down and saved her.
Her boyfriend, who was afraid, ran off, so Andromeda wanted to married Perseus instead. The boyfriend got mad at Perseus and tried to kill him with a bunch of soldiers, so Perseus turned them all to stone with Medusa’s head.Perseus went back to King Polydectes with Andromeda. The king planned to marry his mother even after Perseus returned because he didn’t believe that Perseus really had Medusa’s head in the bag. Perseus took the head out of the bag and King Polydectes, and all of his soldiers, turned to stone. Perseus’s mother married the fisherman Dictys instead, and the fisherman became king.
This made Perseus and his mother very happy. In a celebration at the wedding, Perseus threw the discus farther than anyone else. It went into the crowd that was watching and hit an old man. Nobody knew who the man was except for his mother, and it turned out to be his grandfather. Fate said that Perseus would kill his grandfather, and he did. Now he would be king, but Perseus felt so bad for killing his grandfather that he refused to be king. He sailed across the ocean with Andromeda to make his own kingdom which became the noblest kingdom in the world.
