The White family plays chess by the fire as they wait for their guest to arrive.
Morris, their guest, tells them of a monkeys paw. The don't believe him and wish upon it.
In the morning their son, Herbert, remarks that he will never see any of the money they wished for. Then he went to work
Later that day, a man holding a bag sadly tells the parents of their sons lost. He gives them the money they wished for as gratitude.
That night, Mrs. White demands that her husband wish for their son back. The amount of anger and despair on her face makes him do it.
After he does nothing happens. But a few minutes later there is a loud knock ringing through the house. Mrs. White goes to let Herbert in. Before she can, Mr White wishes him away.
The knocking stops and the old couple weeps at the lost of their dear boy, Herbert.
