Storyboard Text

  • Hello Thomas. This is my daughter Alice,  she is deaf.
  • What planted the seed.
  • Gallaudet's beginning
  • Right now we try to teach her, but she's homeschooled. No school will let her go to their school.
  • I'm going to change that. She will have a place to go to school.
  • Building a Team
  • Well I'm a deaf teacher so let's do it!
  • Hey Laurent, what do you say we create a school for the deaf?
  • Gallaudet  met Dr. Mason's daughter who was deaf. It was his first encounter with someone who is deaf.
  • Promotion
  • Americas School For The Deaf Opening Soon!
  • Gallaudet was curious on where she went to school. When he knew that she didn't go, he waned to change that.
  • Finishing Touches
  • We have a total of 328 in our total staff, 174 students and our colors will be black and orange.
  • We should be ready to start on April 15th.
  • Gallaudet went to Europe, and met a blind teacher. Laurent Cloc, who was initially born hearing, but became deaf after an accident as a child. Both Laurent and Cloc learned each others languages.
  • Relief
  • School For The Deaf
  • The school needed promotion, so teachers and parents of deaf children could see.
  • Thomas and Laurent had everything together, just had to put the star on the Christmas tree.
  • The school has opened, on April 15, 1817. The school has a huge impact on deaf culture. America School For the Deaf was originally named, The Connecticut Asylum for the Education of Deaf and Dumb Persons. The school is still open and changing lives today
  • April 15, 1817
  • Finally a school made for us!
