- The theme represented by the diner is "The Importance of Forgiveness". This is shown by Ruby. Ruby was the inspiration for the creation of Ruby Pier. Ruby is a worker at the Seahorse Grille, better known as the diner. She states that Eddie should forgive his father because he doesn't know the full story. Eddie's dad forgave Mickey Shae for his drunken mistakes, and in return Eddie should forgive him for his harsh actions.
- Despite age, years apart, and death, love is always there. Even though Eddie lost his wife at age 47, he never lost love for her. When they were reunited in heaven, it was like their love had never changed. Marguerite had stayed in a heaven that reminded her of her love for Eddie, therefore their love will live forever.
- As Eddie arrives in heaven, he met the Blue Man. The Blue Man taught him that all life is interconnected. Everything happens for a reason, and everything is a chain reaction. The Blue Man died in a car crash, but he died from a heart attack after the crash. As he swerved to avoid the crash, he swerved to avoid a child. The child was Eddie. In return, Blue Man lost his life instead of young Eddie.
