Storyboard Text

  • Throughout the book it mentions Moose and the other kids going up to Warden William's house and his house looking like a mansion.
  • In chapter 13, Moose learns that he has to watch Natalie after school everyday except Tuesday because Moose's mom has to start teaching piano so they can make enough money because Moose's father doesn't get paid enough.
  • In chapter 22(pages 131-134), Mrs.Capone visited Al Capone on Alcatraz and when she walked through the snitch box it went off and the guards had to check her.
  • According to the authors notes, warden James A, Johnston also lived on the island. He lived in a "beautiful mansion located right next door to the cell house." the authors notes stated.
  • According to the authors notes, the guards were not paid highly. In 1935, when the book took place, The Great Depression was also happening and the houses in San Francisco were expensive. Also the warden on Alcatraz during that time said it was cheaper to have the guards live on the island.
  • In the author notes, it states the Al Capones mother, Teresina Capone did actually set the snitch box off and was really embarrassed because she couldn't speak English and had to strip down to her corset to show the metal the set off the snitch box.
