"No Witchcraft for Sale" Doris Lessing Becca Lawson 3rd Period 5-1-18
Gideon is a cook for the Farquars. He is an African native. He is older, wise, and caring. Later in the story, Gideon helps Teddy. The Farquars betray him by trying to sell his remedy. He was just trying to help them
The story is placed in Africa. The Farquars are a rich white family. They have many African servants. They have a son, Teddy, that became close with Gideon.
The main conflict is that a snake spits venom in Teddy's eyes. It is resolved by Gideon. He used a tribal remedy to cure him.
Gideon tricked the Farquads and scientist in the end. He never told them the remedy.
The theme is that each person has their own culture. The Farquars and the scientist are inconsiderate of other's cultures. I believe that they were inconsiderate but the remedy could also help others.
