  • President Aberaham LIncoln defeated Southern Democrat John C. Breckinridge, Democrat Stephen A. Douglas, and Constitutional Union candidate John Bell. his election upset the southern states which ultimately made them succeed from the union.
  • battle of bull run was the first major battle in the civil war. At the time that this battle took place, The union thought this was going to be an easy war. The confederates proved them wrong. They showed that they meant business. They were pushed back to Henry Hill. Then proceeded to fight their way to safety in Washington DC.
  • battle of Antietam was 3 days of rough fighting between McClellan and Robert E Lee's armies outside of Maryland. At the end of the fighting the union forced Lees army to retreat causing a Victory. Shortly after, the emancipation proclamation was said be Abraham Lincoln.

  • Battle of Shiloh. 40,000 confederate forces under the command of Albert Johnson and attacked a struck of union forces. They drove the unpaired union forces out of their camps. After a day of fighting the union recuperated and established a battle line called "the hornets nest" . after many failed attacks on the hornest nest the union got backup and outnumbered the confederacy. The union won the battle which became he 2nd bloodiest battle in the war.
  • the battle of Gettysburg July 1–3, 1863 was to be known the most bloodiest battle in the civil war. Robert E Lee invaded the northern territory to get supplies for his army, and for political standing. The Union and the Confederacy soon collided at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Lee had 3 failed attacks in this battle. He was unable to kill the federals. he failed to attack the heights. and he failed at Pickett's ridge. Which resulted in 51,000 either dead, wounded, captured, or missing.
  • At the end of the war the union defeated the confederacy, putting an end to slavery.
