THE WAR OF 1812

The year is 1812, and James Madison is currently the president of the united states. Tensions between Britain and the US are at a boiling point. Britain has supplied Native Americans with guns and have impressed US sailors on there ships. We have declared war against them!!!
The first phase of the war took place in the Lake Erie. Oliver Hazard Perry took command of the US NAVY and led the into battle. Perry and the British battled for two hours and Perry ship was hit. Perry then got into a row boat and then forced the British to retreat to land. William Henry Harrison then defeated them of land in the Battle of the Thames, the British were no longer a threat in the northwest!
Effects of the War
After the Brittish defeated France, they brought all the troops to the US. They blockaded the coast aand marched to the US White House in D.C and burned it down. During this time Francis Scott Key watched the bombardment of Mchenry in Baltimore and wrote the "Star Spangled Banner."
James Madison sent Andrew Jackson to command the american forces in Louisiana in 1815.The British attacked the Americans on a fogy day which turned out to be fatal. There were 71 american causalities and 2000 British casualties. The Treaty of Ghent then ended the war of 1812.
It increased american patriotism, and made american heroes like Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison and Commodore Perry
