"Mommy?" said little Brian. "Yes dear?" his mother chirped back "Well I had been wanting to get a pink rug for my room since I'm getting older and know my colors." "But pink is a girl color and your a boy." said Brian's mom.
Brian watched as his mother walked away. He sat and thought... "Why can't I have a pink rug, I mean its my favorite color." he said aloud. Just then his mother walked in and said, "Honey, girls have pink stuff and boys don't, That's just the way it is." His mother stated.
A few years had passed and Brian still didn't understand why he felt so "weird" in his own body. His mom hadn't talked to him anymore about him getting a pink carpet, until he had asked his friends to get him a pink comforter for his bed for his 8th birthday. His mom finally sat him down and said, "Maybe we should talk about this again. Your a boy boy's don't have pink bedrooms." She said firmly.
"But mom! I like the color pink!" screamed Brian "Well your a boy not a girl! screamed back his mom "Well maybe I want to be!" The room went silent and his mom stormed out. Brian just stayed on his bed crying.
His mom came back into the room and they both cried and talked. "If you want to be a girl then we can make that happen, I just want you to be happy." His mother said in between tears "OK, I do want to be I've always felt weird in my own body and I guess now I know why." Brian said.
Years passed.... "Hi, I'm bailey, well I used to be Brian but I love my new self and I'm so happy that while I was growing up I was able to see that. " "And I'm his mom and I encourage everyone to accept who you are and who you want to be." Ever since that day Brain well Bailey slowly turned into a girl and has been so much happier since. I to think it all started with wanting a pink comforter.
