Senor Frias told me that it was all because when they were told to bathe, they only washed the palms and the soles of their feet, and that's why the rest of their bodies are darker.
No, no, no... The hands of the black are whiter because of all the washing they did. It bleached their hands. Thus they have lighter palms.
I don't know what to think about all of these. The truth is however calloused, cracked or exposed they may be, a black's hands are always lighter than the rest of him. And that's that! My mother should know the answer to this...
God made them because they had to be, dear. And God regretted it afterwards because other men laughed at them and took them as slaves or not much better. But because he couldn't make them all white, he made it so that the palms are just the same. Why? To show that what men do is done by men - hands of people who if had any sense, would know that before everything else they are men.
Ma, why are the palms of the black lighter than the rest of it's body?
