People of the Longhouse
The Iroquois lived in present-day New York State in Longhouses.
The five tribes were: Mohawk, Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, and Cayuga
The Iroquois have no written language. They had picture writing done with tiny shells to keep records. The designs told stories.
The Iroquois Confederacy and Our Contitution
Around the year 1570, the Iroquois formed a federation or government to bring about peace.
It was a New World to the Europeans but not to the Indians. The two civilizations were very different. The Indians were called "savages" by the Europeans.
