Storyboard Text

  • We must build a boat, father!
  • Hello, I am the goddess of the sea. I have come to warn you of an approaching tsunami.
  • The tsunami is 1,000 miles away right now and moving at 44.71 meters per second.
  • We must start building immediately!
  • We only have 10 hours! before it hits!
  • 8 hours before the tsunami hits...
  • Once upon a time, on a tiny island in the Caribbean, there lived a boy and his dad. Every day the boy would go fishing with his dad, but one day, while they were fishing, a mysterious figure appeared in the sky.
  • x
  • 23.8 feet
  • This one is the mast since it is about 30 feet tall, and that one is the hull since it is only 20  about feet tall
  • 400
  • which is the mast, and which is the hull?
  • 5 hours before the tsunami hits...
  • The Mysterious figure revealed herself as the god of the sea.     She warned the boy and his father that a tsunami was on its way to consume their island. The boy and his father agreed that they must build a boat to flee the island.
  • 30 feet
  • x
  • how much rope do we need for the sail?
  • 2 hours before the tsunami hits...
  • The father asked the sea goddess how much time they had before the tsunami struck, but the goddess was unsure. Luckily, the man's son was able to calculate it by converting m/s into mph then dividing the distance by the speed.
  • 5π/4 or 2250  Southwest
  • Which way do we head?
  • The father and son set off to find trees for the hull and mast of their boat. They knew that their mast to hull should be a 1.5: 1 ratio.
  • x
  • 35.8 feet
  • 400
  • After cutting down the trees and determining which would be used for what, the father and son began constructing the boat. Firstly, they carved out the hull, then they carved the mast and determined how much rope should be used to fix the sail.
  • Approximently 41.02 feet
  • 470
  • Before the boy and his father could leave they need to know where they were headed. The goddess told them that the tsunami is coming from π/4 Northeast. To maximize the distance between them and the wave they must head in the exact opposite direction.
