Learning how to solve Multi-Step Equations
What should we do first?
-20=-4x-6x First you combine like terms. -4x-6x=-10x. So the new equation will be -20=-10x.
How do you know when to combine like terms?
When both terms have the same variable.
You can combine 5x+24x because they have like terms, but you can't combine 6y+15x because both term do not have the same variable.
So what do you do after combining like terms?
You use inverse operation to get X by itself. Which means you have to divide -10 by both sides.
Yesss!!! Now you get it.
So that means you will divide -20/-10 which means it 2. So X=2.
