The eye of a vulture and the sound of a beating heart drove me, am I mad?
Upon the eighth night I was more then usually cautious in opening the door. He shreaked once-once only I drug him onto the floor and pulled the bed over him.
The deed was done, I tore up 3 planks from the flooring chamber and deposited all between the scant-lings.
The bell sounded the hour, there came a knocking at the street door. Three cops entered who introduced themselves with perfect vanity as officers of the police.
The officers had been satisfied. my manner had convinced them. They sat and while I answered cheerily, they chatted on and on. I felt myself getting pale and wished them gone. My head ached, and I fancied a ringing in my ears.
They sat and chatted. the ringing became more distinct and continued to. It was a low, dull, quick sound. Why would they not be gone? They suspected, they knew!
Villains! Dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear up the planks!
