The March South
3 day Amnesty and Peace Terms
"I won't destroy Greece, I want you to side with me against my invasion towards Persia."
This is so much pun.
Alexander would not abandon control over Greece and marched his army over 250 miles (13 days), with all speed south to Thebes. The march was successful as Alexander achieved the element of surprise.
Alexander didn't want the Greeks thinking of him as a enemy and didn't want to lose their support. He granted Thebes a 3 day Amnesty for them to realise the danger of their situation and offered very leniet terms to end the conflict. All Alex required was that Thebes give up their 2 rebel leaders, Phoenix and Prothytes, if so, he promised no harm.
Alexander ordered his army to attack the city's defenders outside the walls. The army scared the Thebans inside their walled city. Some of Alex's men broke through the gates while others scaled the walls. The Macedonians won, killing 6000 Thebans in the process.
