Storyboard Text

  • Yes, Cebu is a province, yet it's still a highly urbanized city. That means it produces more garbage due to the high population and industrialized region.
  • Wow! 500 tons of trash. I never knew Cebu City could have a large amount of garbage per day considering it's a province. I wonder how it looks like
  • Residual waste is nonhazardous industrial waste. Since more industries and factories are present in Pasig City, the city produces more rubbish that cannot be recycled or reused.
  • Organic, paper, and plastic wastes are the most present in Cebu and Davao. But why do people in Pasig City produce a lot of residual waste?
  • How do these types of waste affect our health and environment?
  • I'm not so sure either. Let's ask Marcus!
  • Some waste, like organic, will eventually rot, but not all, and in the process it may smell or generate methane gas, which is explosive and contributes to the greenhouse effect.
  •  Ohh, I remember our Earth Science discussion. Direct handling of solid waste can also result in various types of infectious and chronic diseases. A city with poor sanitation and has trash all over the place will eventually attract more diseases.
  • Bring reusable bags and containers when shopping, traveling, or packing lunches.
  • So what can we do to reduce the production of waste at home, in school, and around the community?
  •  Think green before you buy anything. Buy items made of recycled content, and use and reuse them as much as you can. Learn to compost at home.
  •  Segregate your trash properly. Papers and metal scraps are usually brought to junk shops. Plastics can also be recycled.
  • Learn to compost at home. Adding the compost you make to soil increases water retention and decreases erosion
