  • Exposition
  • "The thousand injuries of Fortunato... I vowed Revenge." (Poe 117)
  • "...I have received a pipe of what passes for Amontillado, and I have my doubts.” (Poe 117)
  • Rising Action
  • "How?" (Poe 117)
  • Takes place around in the 1800's. Locations are the carnival, wine cellar, a house, and a crypt.
  • Climax
  • "Throwing the links about his waist, it was but the work of a few seconds to secure it. He was too much astounded to resist." (Poe 120)
  • Montresor states that he wants revenge on Fortunato because Fortunato insulted him and hurt him.
  • Falling Action
  • "...I began vigorously to well up the entrance." (Poe 121)
  • When Montresor encountered Fortunato at the carnival, he told Fortunate he had Amontillado in his wine cellar to lure him there.
  • Resolution
  • "I forced the last stone into its position and plastered it up." (Poe 122)
  • Montresor lures Fortunato to the wine cellar and then once they reach the end of the wine cellar, Montresor quickly locks a chain around Fortunato's waist.
  • Montresor then starts sealing up Fortunato behind a brick wall, as Fortunato screams and rattles the chain.
  • Montresor seals Fortunato up behind a brick wall in the crypt, leaving Fortunato to his doom and getting his revenge.
