  •                            First  Writing  System
  • Mesopotamia invented the  first form of writing,  Cuneiform.
  • The  Wheel  and  Chariots
  • Chariots  helped  the  soldiers    to  transport  around  the  battlefield  quickly. 
  • Wooden  Boats  Helped  Travel  Water
  • Because  we  were  surrounded  by  water  the  Sumerians  invented a  wooden  sailboat.   
  • Other civilizations formed their own systems based on this. The alphabet was formed using cuneiform. The Sumerians invented pictographs or picture symbols. The Sumerians had a creative way of creating pictures on tablets to represent different things.
  • Medication
  • The oldest known wheel found in an archaeological excavation originated in Mesopotamia.The wheels were first used for pottery. Then they were used for metal tools and transportation. The Hittites used their chariots in battle.
  • Math
  • Mesopotamia was located between two rivers causing them to need water transportation. The wooden boat could carry people and goods both downstream and up. The boats were used for fishing as well.
  • Science
  • The Sumerians used ingredients from animals, plants, and minerals to produce healing drugs. Items used in these medicine included milk, turtle shells, figs, and salt. The Sumerians even cataloged their medical knowledge.
  • I am the local pharmacist in charge of handing out herbal medicine.
  • Based on the system, they divided a circle into a 360 degrees. They also divided the year into 12 months a factor of 60. The Sumerians also calculated the areas of rectangles and triangles.
  • Inside this building a mathematical genius is solving the hardest question yet.
  • The scholars wrote long lists to record their study of the natural world. The tablets that were written on included the names of thousands of animals, plants, and minerals.
  • I am the local scientist and I am currently  trying to find a cure for a deadly disease.
