This part of the novel is when Nick and Gatsby meet at his party, and it is told from Gatsby's point of view.
I saw this man walking around, and he looked very familiar. I told him about my time in the war, and then I invited him to go along with me to the shore along the Sound. He told me "This is an unusual party for me. I haven't even seen the host. I live over there." he pointed to where he lived, "and this man Gatsby sent over his chauffeur with an invitation." I was very confused at this point when he told me that.
Then I told this young man that I was Gatbsy. He looked very astonished, and then he suddenly said, "What! I beg your pardon." I thought he would have known that I was the host of the party he was attending; that I was Gatsby, but I understood where he was coming from. I felt like I understood this young man, and I believed in him even though I do not know this young soul.
After I talked to this man, I left in a hurry because I had some business to take care of, but he was a nice young man, and I hope to see him again.
