  • Ethos
  • Emancipation Proclamation ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • "Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation."
  • Pathos
  • GIVE US OUR RIGHTS!!!
  • "And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights."
  • NEVER!!!!
  • Logos
  • Life Liberty Pursuit of Happiness
  • "This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men would be guaranteed the "unalienable rights" of "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."
  • This is an example of Ethos in Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech. When Martin Luther King Jr. says this phrase he is directly referring to the man and president that put all of his efforts to try and abolish slavery; Abraham Lincoln. He is trying to persuade the audience that they are fighting for the same reason; racial justice. Since, Abe Lincoln was fighting for the same reason King uses him as a role model and persuades the audience of his good character.
  • This is an example of Pathos because they stop thinking and start feeling determined to get their freedom and are using King's motivational words to gain that sense of confidence and determination.
  • This is an example of Logos because he is alluding to the Declaration of Independence and how it states that everyone should have be treated equally and have the same "unalienable rights." He is using this as a reason (logo) to gain the same rights as white men.
