African elephants have gradually changed and are now born without tusks - here is the reason why.

  • Before humans impacted elephants with a selective pressure, they had large bodies, four legs, two eyes, two ears, one mouth, one trunk, and sometimes tusks
  • There were some elephants that had tusks and others that were tusk-less, a form GENETIC VARIATION found in elephants
  • Then...they appeared.
  • Those tusks sure do look nice!
  • So the humans attacked the elephants' tusks viciously and MANY elephants were left without trunks...
  • We got em', shipments will be sent soon...
  • The poaching of animals with tusks became a SELECTIVE PRESSURE beacuse it affected the survival and reproduction rate of tusk-less elephants versus elephants with tusks
