Storyboard Text

  • Rev. Parris finds the girls
  • Girls, let us dance and be merry!
  • Oh, this is so much fun!
  • The Truth Comes Out
  • "John-I am waitin' for you every night" p.838
  • Abigail, I'll not be comin' for you more. p.838
  • A Cold Relationship
  • "Spoke or silent, a promise is surely made. And she may dote on it now-I am sure she does-and thinks to kill me, then take my life" p.855
  • "She cannot think it!" p.855
  • Rev. Parris finds Tituba dancing in the woods with several girls including his daughter one night. This scandal leads Rev. Parris to believe they are practicing withcraft. They were not actually practicing witchcraft, Abigail was just going crazy as a result of her affair with John. This was the spark that started the witch trials.
  • Innocent Accused
  • No sir, Mary Warren made it for me during the court today
  • Does this poppet found in your house, Elizabeth represent your desire to kill Abigail?
  • Abigail and John meet to discuss their affair during which John says their relationship is over but clearly Abigail still wants him. Their affair and the lying, deceit and lack of honesty that came with it triggered the witch trials.
  • Good Intentions
  • No, sir
  • "Is your husband a lecher?" p.874
  • John and Elizabeth discuss his affair. Elizabeth is very upset about it and doesn't take it lightly but John tries to pretend it's nothing. Elizabeth is foreshadowing that Abigail is going to accuse her of being a witch and try to have her killed so she can have John to herself.
  • The manipulative Abigail
  • A bird, there's a bird! Mary, please don't hurt me!
  • Abigail, please stop. You're just pretending!
  • Elizabeth has just been accused of witchcraft for having a voodoo doll of Abigail when really Abigail hid the needle in the doll and stabbed herself. This scene represents the hysteria that is breaking out in the town. People are accusing others of witchcraft not because they truly believed it was but because of family feuds, arguments and other silly things.
  • Danforth had previously brought in John to discuss the accusation of Elizabeth. He says that Elizabeth has never told a lie and he confesses to his affair to save Elizabeth's name. Elizabeth is then called in and says that John never had an affair to cover his name but in doing that she destroys both her's and her husbands credibility.
  • Mary Warren testifies that they were only pretending and she only thought she saw that devil. Abigail starts acting crazy and says that there is a bird attacking her who is Mary and Mary has bewitched them with a cold wind. Abigail is manipulating the other girls into convincing the court Mary is a witch. This shows that people are lying and deceiving and going to great lengths to get revenge on others.
  • Mary, don't hurt me!
