In 1912, Lenin appointed Joseph Stalin to serve on the first Central Committee of the Bolshevik Party which started his rise to power.
1928 -five year plan starts- Stalin seizes farms and factories and forces citizens to work on them to profit the government. This process is called collectivization.
Economy becomes unified as stalin industrializes the country.
Stalin's purges, the worst happening in 1938-39, was caused by paranoia and was an attempt to remove any opposition to the communist party.
As WW2 progressed, Stalin participated in the major Allied conferences. His iron will and deft political skills enabled him to play the loyal ally while never abandoning his vision of an expanded postwar Soviet empire.
Stalin died of a massive heart attack on March 5, 1953. He is remembered to this day as the man who helped save his nation from Nazi domination—and as a mass murderer, having overseen the deaths of between 8 million and 10 million of his own people.
