On August 15th, 1769, Napoleone di Buonaparte was born on a couch in his parents home in Corsica. He was born the child of Carlo Maria and Letizia Maria Ramolino di Buonoparte. His father was an active member of the Corsican independence movement against the Genoese, and was therefore a target for Genoese soldiers.
In his early years, Napoleone developed into a small (both in weight and height) yet fiery tempered child, which would carry over into his adult life.
Napoleone started school at age five. He took his studies very seriously and developed a passion for mathematics which he kept throughout his life, leading him to become an artillery officer in the French Army. His fiery attitude followed him throughout life as well, influencing his decision to join the military.
