Storyboard Text

  • Shot of a figure skater skating around
  • Talk about the balance of the skater on the blades.
  • The forces acting on the skater are force of gravity, normal force, force of their motion, and the force of friction, which is low because of the ice and the shape of the blades.
  • Talk about the follow through of a jump, they must position their leg at a 90* angle to stay balanced.
  • Skaters jump at an angle of 30* for a double axel. They jump higher the longer they need to stay in the air.
  • Skaters change their forward momentum to help them spin, they pull their arms in close to their body to keep spinning.
