Praise be to Big Brother!
Winston writes in his journal while attempting to hide it all from the telescreen.
His one source of hope is his belief that O'Brien secretly agrees with him, because they once caught eyes during a Two Minutes Hate.
Mrs. Parsons asks Winston to fix a pipe in her house, but her kids, who've been trained by the Party, spend their time hurting him while he's there.
Big brother is watching.
As he enters the room, Winston is very surprised to see that the prostitue looks 50 years old.
Winston tries to get an old man at a pub to recount stories of how the world used to be a long time ago.
After finally getting from her a note that says "I love you," Winston and the girl meet in a public plaza where they won't be picked out individually by the telescreens.
