Hello! My name is Jan Ernst Matzeliger. I was born September 15,1852 in Paramaribo. I am inventor. I created the lasting machine.
I loved to create things and I was fascinated by the shoe. I always wanted to know how shoes were created.
My father was a dutch engineer that worked on government machines and my mother was a native in Paramaribo.
When I was 9, I used to work for my father as an apprentice . At 19 I moved to Philadelphia 1873. It was very hard for a dark skinned man to find a job. I was hoping to find a job in the shoe business but did have any luck.
I learned how to create molds of the customers feet with wood and stone. This Possess is hand made and takes a while to do. I thought to my self, how can I make this processor easier.
•I did not have any luck finding a job so i moved to Lynn,Massachusetts for better job opportunists. I found a job in shoe factory.I learned many different skills.
After this thought. Jan began to come up with ideas for the Lasting machine to do this long process of shoe making faster. After many ideas later Materialize got a patient on March 20th, 1883. The last machien held a shoe on a last pulling the leather down around the heel and drove nails in the leather. This machine could make up to 700 shoes a day. After he created it it became a giant success and he formed a company in 1889. Jan died in august 24,1889 from tuberculous.
