Storyboard Text

  • Hello viewers, I am Kate from 5 News and we are in China's Capital, Beijing and as of today China's One Child Policy has been removed, and people are celebrating with joy.
  • Yay, finally the one child policy is over
  • I can now have a brother!
  • Now all the pressure is off me and I can now depend on my sibling
  • Now there will be enough women equal to men
  • China's One Child Policy started in 1980 and ended in 2016. This Policy has been going on for a total of 36 years.
  • Did you know that most childbirths had turned into abortions because the gender of the baby was female? Back then parents wanted males because when the parents got old the male child would take care of them in contrast the female child would get married and she would have to go live with her husband.
  • China's One Child Policy was created by Chinese Leader Deng Xiaoping to temporarily limit China's population growth
  • By 2016 foster homes are now being less used and parents can now have 2 children.
