Storyboard Text

  • The fall of The Terror began with the shutting down of political clubs and societies. The first to go were the women's clubs, which played a key role in 3rd estate politics.
  • "Ultrarevolutionaries" and "indulgents" were the next to be under trial by Robespierre in the spring of 1794. Deputy Danton, once a member of the Committee of Public Safety, was sentenced to death for treason. A man who once influenced politics in France was soon killed by The Terror.
  • That is as many as "300,000" people!
  • During The Terror, "1 out of every 50" people were sentenced to prison between March 1793 and August 1794.
