So how did you get so big?
I was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and when I was 13 we moved to Memphis, Tennessee.
Where are you from?
You served in the army, correct?
Yeah. I was inducted into Fort Chaffee as a private. Sadly, my mother died while I was in there.
Back to Memphis, what was the transition like when you got there?
Well, I was regarded as a loner by my classmates, and it was pretty lonely the first year or so.
What was that first recording session like?
Well before the recordings, things were hard. I couldn't get into any bands or quartets or anything. Eventually I got into the studio and things took off.
