Lady Macbeth receives a letter from her husband Macbeth, delivered by the mail carrier. As she reads the letter she hears that Macbeth is Thane of Cawdor and is predicted to become King. In her mind she is excited to become a future Queen, and to have power along with nobility.
As, King Duncan approaches the Castle of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, he is impressed on how beautiful the castle looks and how lovely the atmosphere is. Lady Macbeth however, puts on a false face when in reality she wants King Duncan dead, so she will become Queen and her husband King.
When, Macbeth is in his study, he thinks about whether to kill King Duncan or to let him live. When Lady Macbeth enters the study, she acts like the devil's advocate, so that Macbeth will be persuaded to kill Duncan. Her first two attempts of persuasion fail, then finally after saying she will kill their own child for Macbeth. He finally agrees to her plan of getting the soldiers drunk, kill King Duncan, blame the murder on the soldiers and finally put on a false face with a false act.
