  • We are traveling west because it is our destiny.
  • We heard that in February a large part of Santa Anna's army reached San Antonio, Texas.
  • But there was 180 Texans who voluntarily defended what was there, The Alamo.
  • We bought the Louisiana Territory and now we are traveling through it.
  • The country divided itself between if we should purchase the Louisiana Territory or not. This was called the Purchase Debate.
  • In the end Santa Anna won, but the Texans fought to their death.
  • After Texas became an independent country, most Texans wanted to become apart of America.
  • Later, James Gadsden bought a strip of land for $10 Million. This purchase, now known as the Gadsden Purchase is the border between the US and Mexico.
  • Finally after 10 years Texas annexed with America.
  • Then the Mexican-American war broke out. The Americans ended up winning, so the region from Texas to California became American.
  • Missionaries were the first to travel to Oregon. And once they found out about
  • the fertile soil and thick forest. Oregon became know as "Pioneer Paradise"
  • Now that you know more about the Manifest Destiny you will now create a crossword puzzle based off of Chapter 15 (p. 278-290) Your project will have to include these words: Louisiana Territory Bargain Purchase Debate Florida Govern Texas Alamo Annex Independence Oregon Fever Mexican-American War Treaty Gadsden Purchase
