Storyboard Text

  • The Indus Valley was located along the Indus River. The Indus River begins in the Himalayan Mountains, and ends in the Arabian Sea.
  • Welcome to the Indus Civilization. It all started about 5,000 years ago, in what is now Pakistan.
  • In the city of Mohenjo- Daro, our homes were found to be made of baked mud bricks.
  • Baked bricks were more practical. These bricks did not wash away if there was a small flood. They made these using a very hot oven, or a kiln.
  • Our homes are complete with many modern comforts.
  • Some of these comforts were: garbage systems, plumbing, and separate rooms.
  • Archaeologists found hardly any weapons or battle tools. By looking at the skeletons of some of the citizens, only a couple had wounds that may have been caused by a weapon.
  • We were very peaceful people.
  • Trading was very important to us.
  • The Indus people traded farm goods, cotton cloth, beads, and pots to nearby cities. Sometimes they would carry the items on their back, or have oxen pull it there with a cart. It is also common to load items on ships.
  • We used seals as tags or markings.
  • Seals could be used like labels. Maybe to show who a sack of grain belonged to.
