  • Microscopes were invented between the late 1500's to mid 1600's by Antonie van Leeuwenhoek. He was the first person to see bacteria and found lots of it in his own mouth! • It is likely that Galileo made the first thermometer, but an improved version of the thermometer using mercury was made in the early 1700's. This improved version used mercury that expanded as the temperature rises which makes the mercury travel up the tube.
