At this time Brutus, a Consul, was forced to execute both his sons because they wanted to help Superbus. This would be betraying Rome and Rome comes before everything, even family.
In order to bring about a swift victory, a Roman soldier, Caius, infiltrated the enemy camp in order to assassinate the enemy General. Despite not being a ninja he was able to stay hidden until the General came out but he messed it up. In an effort to show that the Roman would never give in he stuck his hand into a nearby fire. This shows Rome how Rome comes before even one's own body.
After the war and even more subsequent wars, the Plebians got tired of fighting Rome's battles without getting anything in turn. In the first Secession of the Plebs all the Plebs went on strike and retreated to a nearby hill outside of Rome. In order to keep the body functioning, the Patricians went along with what the Plebs wanted. They got the Tribune of the Plebs. This protected them from unfair laws.
A little time after that, the Plebs realized that there was no way to know what laws were unjust. This led to the second Secession of the Plebs. They retreated to the same hill and went on strike. The Patricians essentially agreed with them on this one so the Twelve Tables were created. These held all Roman laws.
In a period a war, Rome called upon a farmer named Cincinnatus to take the mantle of Dictator. He agreed and won the war very soon after he started. He returned to his farm no problem and this surprised Rome because he was only in power for a short amount of time. This started the precedent of peacefull transitions between dictators.
At one point, the Gauls were threatening a Roman ally the Fabii. They decided to help out but only made things worse because a Gaul general was killed durning negotiations. The gaul were willing to only take the Fabii and be done with it but Rome promoted the men who killed the General to Consuls. This prompted the Gauls to attack Rome. Outside the city Romans were defeated and some fled to Veii. The Gauls sacked the city while the Patricians fled to the most defensible hill in Rome. After some thwarted attempts to take the hill by geese alarming those inside, the two side decide to make a treaty. The Gauls want gold so the Romans start to give them gold. A recently exiled Roman general Camillus interrupted these transactions and defeated the Gauls, thereby saving Rome.
